Living with Long covid
This podcast aims to raise awareness of long covid, provide a platform of support, education and the lived experience. My name is Julie, I am a registered nurse in the UK. I became unwell with Covid in May 2020 while working on the front line, during the first wave of the pandemic. Subsequently I live with long covid and POTS ( postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). I would like to share my journey and lived experience, the symptoms and how each impacts daily life. I aim to not only consider the physical issues but also the impact this has had mentally and emotionally. It is reported over 2 million people in the UK and an estimated 65 million worldwide, live with long covid. This is huge, and affects every area of a persons life, their family, friendships and work life. Join me and some great guests and let’s Learn, advocate and continue this journey together.
Living with Long covid
My treatment, rehab, and symptom management journey
On this episode of the podcast I discuss my Long Covid treatment and medical professional input from acute covid to the treatment I am having to date. I started treatment 6 months ago and I explain more about this and reflect upon my journey to getting to this point. Like many I have been unable to access any appropriate treatment or medical professional input via the NHS, this does seem to be a postcode lottery and Long Covid clinics I am advised more often then not are not fit for purpose. My experience with the Long Covid clinic in my area took 2 years to access, was brief and inappropriate, I discuss this on the episode.
I talk about using my medical knowledge to manage my symptoms and to support getting a referral to cardiology and gaining a diagnosis of POTS.
I explain how meeting Dr Binita Kane and interviewing her for the podcast opened a door for me to access treatment via the private sector route. I have now been on treatment for 6 months. I also discuss how this journey and following losing my NHS job has led me to have the opportunity to work alongside Dr Binita Kane, to find out more listen to this episode, as always please take care.
